Collab - Tippi the Pink

Description

Tippi the Pink and my fourth submission for the :icondisney-club: Disney Heroines Collab.
Tippi was always my favorite Fluppy, if only because of her response to the classic "you can talk?" question was "I wish you wouldn't keep saying that. I've been talking since I was three."

Did you know that at one point in the 80's, Disney tried to green-light a TV show about dimension-hopping colorful dogs that traveled by inserting a key into thin air and manifesting a magical door that took them to other worlds?

If you didn't, don't worry, you're not the only one that doesn't remember Disney's Fluppy Dogs, the forgotten toy line that turned into a forgotten special.

The special itself is kind of an interesting watch because, while it is a cool concept and it's a shame it never saw the light of day, at the same time it's pretty easy to see why Disney's Fluppy Dogs never took off. I think the main problem with the show itself is that, while the Fluppy Dogs themselves are really interesting (I really like that, while they do have a leader in Stanley, Ozzie is the one that has to find the portals) and the whole idea of interdimensional travel would make for a great show, the special kind of stops being interesting right around the time they have to do the whole "schoolkid boy keeps alien as a pet and tries to hide wacky shenanigans from parent" trope that appeared in so many 80's movies and TV shows.

I think what would've saved the special is if they made it all about the dogs trying to find their way home and didn't try to make relatable children characters that bog down the story. The most visually interesting part of the special is, strangely enough, the first couple minutes where they're in these strange alien worlds full of rocky spires and stormy clouds and they're just barely avoiding danger. Then, once they make their way to Earth, most of the Fluppy Dogs end up disappearing for most of the movie (I think Dink and Bink have a grand total of like two minutes of screen time) and we have to deal with a pretty pathetic villain and a dog pound. You have intelligent aliens that can travel through the fabrics of space and time, but a dog pound thwarts them.

But as it stands, Fluppy Dogs is a nice little footnote in the very rich history of Disney animated television.

(I am also kicking myself that I didn't draw Stanley the Blue for the Disney Good Guys Collab, but eh, water under the bridge.)

I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that go on wacky and crazy adventures.
