DWD- My First Ever Ship

Description

Old boyfriends are like weeds, I tell you. Especially if they're half-plant.

And don't worry, that rose is plastic.

The episode "Beauty and the Beet" influenced me when I was a wee tot. It's a good thing I was too young to master the art of fanfic or else I totally would've written some in crayon on how Rhoda and Bushroot totally deserve each other.

To make up for the fact that my last Bushroot picture wasn't all that good, have a better Bushroot picture! I promise my watchers, next Darkwing Duck fanart will not be Bushroot-themed. It'll probably be Megavolt-themed because Megs is my second fave.

Since my Halloween picture was late, I figured I'd err to the side of caution and make this one EARLY. I wanted to make this Valentine's Day special, so I decided to draw the first "pairing" I ever really supported. So it was a toss-up between this one or Snow White/Shadow Man from Happily Ever After (shut up that movie's awesome!), and I'll be honest, I was waiting to draw something with Rhoda in it.

Not sure if I got Rhoda completely 100% on model, but in my defense, when I was finding reference pictures for Bushroot and how high or low his "roots" start, I found vastly differenting things. Hell, sometimes his eyes have space inbetween them and sometimes they're close together, and sometimes he has no "skirt" and sometimes he does. Clearly Darkwing Duck was not a show that kept 100% on the model sheets.

But I did change one thing. I gave his leaf tail curly tips because male drakes have curly tailfeathers. I thought it'd be a cute touch.

I honestly still like Rhoda/Bushroot and it's still my favorite Darkwing Duck ship (sorry Morgana/Darkwing, I really likes the drama)...if Rhoda isn't all "Yay, I totally forgot about the time you kidnapped me!" and be all hunky-dory. I like it when it's obvious that Rhoda still doesn't trust the guy too much (well he DID murder two of their coworkers) but Bushroot had to earn her trust.

Course, I also hate it if Bushroot is all serial rapist on Rhoda. I went through several different poses for this because I had to scale back the creepiness factor. Rhoda was resisting more, Bushroot looked more sinister...I honestly see Reggie as just totally not getting it as far as Rhoda's feelings go or hell, how normal courtship works. He just figures that girls like flowers (hell, he IS a flower) so she'll forgive him.

And all of the stuff I seem to find on these guys is usually either instantly accepting Rhoda or creepy stalker Bushroot. Where's my wacky shenanigans Bushroot/Rhoda where they acknowledge the faults without going overboard?

And unrelated, but Bushroot's face just totally cracks me up. I'm glad he doesn't look sane in this picture. Because Bushroot's not. He sticks plant juice in his arm, marries giant potatoes, and then tries to ruin Christmas after all.

Next picture won't be Bushroot, I swear! I'm afraid people are going to start thinking that this is the only DWD character I can draw. XD

i know this is a super late comment here but I really appreciate your thoughts behind these two. :)
I always really liked this episode a lot & always felt Bushroot leaned more towards not understanding courtship more than anything intentionally malicious (in the beginning anyway xD).
I mean, he spent his life effectively devoted to plants after all. anything social to him was probably like a big 'OMG WHAT DO??' haha.
Anyway, I really like the idea of him having to learn boundaries at some point & of course I love the way this picture illustrates him not quite grasping the concept yet lol
poor Rhoda. her expression is so priceless haha. At least he's trying though right? ;)
