Neal's a Bit Stressed at The Moment...

I love this new way of coloring sketches. It's a fun alternative to inking things.

Hi, Neal! It's been a while, hasn't it? The last time I drew you was...[link] ...okay, why don't I draw you more?

Dr. Neal Sect, the half-bumblebee entomologist mad scientist dude, is one of those characters where I don't draw very often and for the life of me I can't understand WHY I don't draw him very often. I mean, he's a blast to draw, it's fun drawing a multiple-limbed character, and he's a lot more charming than the jerks that populate my character list. And yet I don't have enough pictures of him. Go figure.

But yeah, had to draw him after I drew Ben. Consider Neal Ben's conscience, so to speak. Or, more appropriately, his Navi, since Neal's response to anything Ben does is to yell "WATCH OUT!" and "OH NO!". I'll leave it to you to figure out what Neal is freaking out over.

Neal is normally a really cheerful person, but he's also quite high-strung and can just hit colossal stress levels at the drop of a hat. Neal's panic button is very, VERY easily triggered. Part of this is a survival mechanism from living in a household where he was the smallest, wimpiest, puniest of three brothers and having Benjamin Thorn as a best friend and part of this is because he lives in a world populated by mutants, zombies, demons, and cyborgs way more powerful than him. All Neal can do is run away very fast and maybe, if cornered, buzz really loudly and flail uselessly with his weak, clawed bug hands. Not a fighter, that Neal.

Also, yes, I realize his bee tail isn't in either of these sketches, but since his torsos are facing the opposite direction it'd just be awkward to draw one and completely block out the other one, you know?

Some random facts on this crazy entomologist.

*Neal is 25 years old but has already conquered two cities. (Accidentally. For about three days. It's a long story.)
*Currently teaches Art at the Academy of Evil and is a Biology substitute in case Benjamin Thorn can't teach (which happens a lot since Ben likes to slack).
*His mutations are completely localized and stable. He engineered bee arms and bee wings for the obvious purposes of having two extra arms and the ability to fly. The antennae, neck fluff, and bee tail were just bonuses.
*Neal is self-taught ambidextrous in all four of his hands.
*Besides about several thousand different insects, Neal also owns a tiny little yellow lovebird named Honey. Honey likes to hide in his neck fluff or play with his antennae. Honey is the only bird that tolerates Neal; most other birds tend to divebomb him or otherwise try to eat the giant insect.
*Neal's antennae are used to communicate with his insects, but if you put a hat over them, his "connection" with them is cut off.
*Neal is basically the confectionary chef of the Academy and can make some pretty awesome cakes.
*Neal can't swim. Like REEEALLY can't swim.
*I like to imagine Neal's voice as sounding like a cross between Vin's voice from Jak 2 and Fix-it Felix Jr. from Wreck-it Ralph.
*Speaking of Wreck-it Ralph, that movie gave Neal nightmares for days. The monster at the end of the movie is the very thing that Neal does NOT want to turn into and all the senseless bug slaughter made Neal very sad.
