Bwa-HA Ha-HAAH! HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY, ADVENTURES OF SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!

These two are my idols. They may not be the first "bumbling two minions of the main hero that always fail to capture their target" example in western animation, but they're certainly one of the more entertaining.

Fanart that took way too long considering the source material. I blame the fact that I went with computer inking for this, when my comfort zone is traditional inking. I typically don’t ink on the computer because my hand is really shaky, therefore making the proceedure twice as long as traditional inks, but at the same time I feel I should ink more on the computer just to train myself to.

I'm honestly surprised that I have no fanart of these guys even though they're my childhood heroes. That had to change.

I am not ashamed (okay, a little ashamed) to admit that I own every single episode of this show on DVD and that I consider it my personal favorite out of all the Sonic the Hedgehog shows. SatAM beats it in terms of, well, everything, but AoSTH sure is fun to watch. Unlike the Super Mario cartoon where Mario and Luigi are almost too useless (can we talk about the fact that sometimes Mario needs a super star to beat basic enemies in that show?), AoStH presents Sonic as how he is in the videogames; a nigh-unstoppable force that will destroy entire armies of robots that stand in his way without breaking a sweat. Scratch and Grounder almost feel like tragic Greek heroes in some of the episodes, bound to fail but their hubris keeping them from seeing their failure. There's episodes where Sonic almost feels like a bit part, with the main focus being Scratch and Grounder trying to get Robotnik's approval.

I also always liked the neat touch that Scratch only has two tail feathers on account his third tail feather was used to make Grounder in the pilot episode. ...provided of course they actually keep the characters on model.

As always, fiddled with my way of coloring things in order to capture the look and feel of the show. I always dug AoStH's wacky color palettes so I tried the same way, with purpley shading and pink highlights. Successful or no, it sure was fun. It was also fun doing the whole splattered background effect.

Tried a new method of shading that involves a lot more shading layers. Unfortunately, that made my Photoshop very angry and slow.
